Calibre attempts to detect chapter breaks from patterns in your text (like lines starting with 'Chapter' or blank line separators). For best results, separate chapters with consistent heading patterns.
The basic conversion does not add a cover image. You can add a cover later using Calibre desktop or any EPUB editor like Sigil.
UTF-8 is recommended. Calibre can also handle common encodings like ISO-8859-1 and Windows-1252, but UTF-8 ensures all characters are preserved correctly.
Kindle devices do not natively support EPUB. You can convert the EPUB to MOBI or AZW3 using ChangeThisFile, or use Amazon's Send to Kindle feature which accepts EPUB.
Calibre sets default metadata based on the filename. For custom metadata, edit the EPUB afterward using Calibre desktop or Sigil.
